Visit Your House, Like a Stranger Would Do

Can you visit your house

like a stranger would do?

Can you role-play

slowly opening the entrance door?

You will let the inside warmth

touch your skin like a faithful pet

greeting you with inside aromas

emanated by the rugs, and the covers, and the pillows

that absorb the history of your life.

You will sit on the sofa

with tingling ears under the pressure of silence

and will sweep your gaze

over each item on your shelves

trying to map their lifetime.

Can you remember how they ended on your shelf?

Can you trace the event

that made you choose that vase,

and that owl,

and that plastic Eiffel Tower,

and how about those beach shells,

where were you when you chose those

and why, most of all, why?

And then can you imagine all these things

lingering on,

after you’re long gone…
